Khurram Murad was born in Bhopal, India in 1932, and migrated to Pakistan in 1948. He studied civil engineering at the University of Karachi (BEng. 1952), securing 1st place in the University, and went on to study in the University of Minnesota (USA) (MSc. 1958), he worked as a leading consulting engineer in Karachi, Dhaka, Tehran and Riyadh.Associated Consulting Engineers Ltd., with which he worked as a chief engineer and resident director, was responsible for the initial design and electrification of the extension of the Masjid al-Haram, Makkah and Khurram Murad played an important role in the formulation and implementation of the plans for extension of the Haram. Khurram Murad occupies a place of distinction in the intellectual firmament of contemporary Islam. A thinker, an orator and a prolific writer, he has been one of the architects of current Islamic resurgence. While his da’wah activities began in Pakistan, he has been involved in the promotion of the Islamic movement in Asia, Europe, Africa and the Americas. As a teacher and a da’iyah his speeches and thoughtful orations have inspired thousands of young men and women all over the world. As chief of thetraining departments of the Jamiat, the Jamaat and as an active resource-person in training programmes in the UK and America, he played a key role in the character-building of the youth in the Islamic Movement

جناب خرم مراد نے موجود معلومات پر اکتفا کرنے کے بجائے تحقیق اور تفکر و تدبر کے مشکل راستے کو منتخب کیا۔ سعودی عرب سے برطانیہ منتقل ہونے کے بعد ۱۹۷۷ سے ۱۹۸۷ تک وہ معروف علمی و تحقیقی ادارے دی اسلامک فاونڈیشن میں ڈائریکٹر جنرل کے طور پر خدمات انجام دیتے رہے۔ مغرب اور اسلامی دنیا کے درمیان اختلاف اور اتفاق کی بنیادوں کا تجزیہ کرتے ہوئے ، اس راستے کی نشان دہی کی جن پر چل کر مغربی دنیا پر سکون اور مسلم دنیا پر وقار زندگی کا انتخاب کر سکتی ہے۔ انہوں نے یورپ میں مسلمانوں کی تنظیموں سے رابطے کا فریضہ بحسن خوبی انجام دیا۔
اعلیٰ تعلیم یافتہ اور ہنر مند افرادی قوت کی تیاری اور عام طلبہ کی معیاری تعلیمی ضروریات پورا کرنے کے لیے‘ انسٹی ٹیوٹ آف لیڈر شپ اینڈ مینجمنٹ ’(آئی ایل ایم) قائم کرنے میں فکری اور علمی مدد کی۔ ازاں بعد یہ ادارہ ترقی کرتے ہوئے یونیورسٹی آف مینجمنٹ اینڈ ٹیکنالوجی لاہور کی صورت میں ترقی کی منازل طے کر رہا ہے۔ سندھی میں معیاری تحقیقی لٹریچر کی اشاعت کے لیے ‘مہران اکیڈمی’ قائم کرنے کے لیے عملی پیش رفت کی۔ جبکہ اُردو میں سستے اور معیاری لٹریچر کی طباعت کے لیے منشورات اور سمعی و بصری موازے کی تیاری کے لیے ادارہ، سمع و بصر قائم کیا۔ ان کی رہنمائی میں علمی ریسرچ کے کئی منصوبوں کے علاوہ ۱۰۰ سے زیادہ کتابوں کی اشاعت کا کام ہوا۔ اُردو میں ان کی ۱۱۷ اور انگریزی میں ۴۰ چھوٹی بڑی کتابیں شائع ہو چکی ہیں۔ وہ برطانیہ سے شائع ہونے والے سہ ماہی جریدے‘ دی مسلم ورلڈ بک ریویو’ اور ‘ماہانہ ترجمان القرآن’ لاہور کے ایڈیٹر بھی رہے۔ ۱۹ دسمبر ۱۹۹۶ کو خالق حقیقی سے جا ملے

On a special day born as Khurram Jah Murad. Whilst the subcontinent was wrapped in a charade. The blazing bright sun rose again in Bhopal, and rose too did his wisdom, vision and jamaal.
A beautiful fragrance travelling distant lands, His writings and thoughts reached many around,
His ideas and dreams brought hope again, During an era fraught with difficulty and pain.
Unstoppable was the veracity of his pure ink, His books and words made people stop and think: Where are we now and where are we heading? We must act now to prevent confusion from spreading.
He was a beacon of light and hope for the youth,
Respected because he spoke only the truth. His concern and worry was for our days ahead,
And to tell us all the things that were never said.
And as he lay towards the end of his time, His last will was a testament so sublime, The importance of dhikr, and a call to action, His love for the Divine was also his final transaction.
And when the time came for his soul to be parted, He left us orphaned and broken hearted, A vacuum was left that would not be filled, Though still he lives through the knowledge he instilled.
Ustadh Khurram Murad, a beacon of light, The seeds of wisdom he planted quietly at night. And as he flew, a spirit beautiful and bright, The world became dimmed, lost of his light.
